0there's no language file for this (which doesnt mean that it can't be translated! .
to translate these sentences, you'll have to go directly to the en-GB.ini file, on your language folder
open it, and add the sentences.
for instance, add
RATED ALBUM=whatever you want
to translate the sentences that say:
XXX rated album XXX etc

0no, no, you DONT have to change any PHP lines.
you dont need to change PHP at all. only the .INI files, which are the langauge files
to translate any other sentences, just add them into the language file
for instance
ADDED ALBUM=whatever
its very easy: the UPPERCASE label tag on the left, and your translation on the right

0yes, i understand how to create the php lines, but my problem is i'm not sure what the php call-lines are....
for instance, from your posts, i can gather two call-lines, "ADDED ALBUM" & "RATED ALBUM" what are the other php call-lines?
sorry for my lack of description or php vocabulary. My knowledge is pretty basic, but i know that if i know what the call-lines are, i can figure it out from there.
Thanks, -

0:S I don't undertand your question :S
what you mean with "call-lines"?
if you mean "the sentences that are translated"... well, just take a look at the sentences you see, and add them and translate them.
any complete "sentece" you see will, in the 95% of cases will be the sentence to translate.
in the case of jomsocial, if you see a sentence like:
wbhendrix rated administrator's album Abbey Road with [STARS]
the sentences to translate will be:
RATED=
ALBUM=
WITH=
(all the rest are variables)
HOWEVER, in case of jomsocial's time line, everything that appears there is already stored on the DB, so IT CANNOT BE CHANGED. the translations you make will take effect on the following inputs.
