There isn't an option to disable this funcitionality.
We are going to consider adding it, but meanwhile the send mail icon can be easily removed if you don't really need it. This is quite easy to do by code if you are familiar with it.
If you are, I cant point you where to find it. If not, and you really want to take it out, we can do it for you.
