It looks like all uploaded songs are placed in the song directory without any folder structure whatsoever. File names are also changed to the song name provided at the upload form. Is this the case? Would it be better to have an songs/artist/album/song.mp3 structure instead of songs/song.mp3? This would keep everything a lot more organized within the server folders.

0Yes having the audio track files in the songs/artist/album/song.mp3 is much better and clean. The only way to do this so far is to upload the files in a folder form the back end of the site. On large sites like my site this makes a great big mess when looking for a file. It would be nice to have this songs/artist/album/song.mp3 structure added to the system to keep things more clean and professional.
I expect that MC would be one of the top Joomla component with some of the great ideas that are being shared here.
Keep up the great work with MC.

0hello
it's a really good idea (a bit complicated, but really good) so we'll try to add this in a future version as an optional configuration parameter (optional, because not everybody wants this!
@sitsam you are really throwing interesting ideas in the forum thanks for that! with your ideas (all of you, I mean, all the people who posts on the forum, you too @maxpower) and ours we will make this component a lot better!
thanks for helping!!

0I would love to see some type of database authentication with the songs and their locations. That way the music can be on the server but doesn't have to be within the web path.
Would be ideal if I could just point MC to where the music is located, say c:\\music, and it would scan that folder and all it's subfolders for all the id3 tags and update the database without having to move the music or mess up the current folder structures. Having MC be able to read the music without altering or moving or renaming would be the most ideal setup. This would allow for having music both on the website within the webroot and outside of it. If you use some database authentication along with session IDs one could also secure the music. That way the urls to the music are not exposed and can not be directly access unless logged in or allowed. -

I concur with this. Right now we have our entire database (about 2 terabytes) of mp3 songs sorted according to artist/album. We were really looking forward to having this private Joomla site set up so we could access our mp3s anywhere through our iPhones, but at the cost of changing all the file names and losing our directory structure?
Is there any way to maintain our current directory structure? It looks like the file names do not get changed if I upload via ftp instead of through the interface - can the interface find the files if they are in a sub-directory off of /songs?
