I've been working with MC for over a year now and I'm really missing a lot of rather obvious features which appear on all other music sites I visit each day. I've requested these before but I will ask for them again. This is a long list with very serious suggestions to make MC rock even more, please consider them and add some of them, thanks in advance!
btw I'm also willing to pay for very custom or extraordinary features which will not be part of MC!
Lists and Search Results
Please add the option to display artists in the results or abc listings as Profile like in the Featured artists module. The old discography view is cool but also very slow.
Please add Album list template selection to search results, with the option to set a view as preferred default. I personally prefer Grid view on every page for example.
Please add menu items to display genres, artists, albums, songs and record labels as search results.
Genres
Please add a description field to genres. Add a menu item to list all genres with description. Add most popular artists/albums to genre view. Show description when browsing a genre.
Example: http://www.last.fm/tag/folk

Artists
Please change "Years active" to "Active since" 1990 (disbanded in 1999)
Please add more website fields for Official site, LastFM, Facebook, MySpace etc. maybe with a nice little icon. I would love that!
Please add a simple textfield to add Members/Musicians, where we can add a list of names and instruments. Or maybe 2 textfields for current and past members (guest musicians). It's not very nice at all to give musicians no credit on the artist page at all. I've received many complaints about this. You could even create separate pages for every musician...

Please add textfields for credits where we can add recording info like studio, cover artist, graphic designer and guest musicians. People really want to know this kind of stuff, that's what a music database is all about, complete information. I'm not going to use the Review field for this.
Please link tags to show (search) results. This must be very easy to add to MC.
Is it possible to change comments to reviews? So users can write reviews on album pages. This would basically be their rating with name and comment (textfield) Very simple but effective! If possible integrate their name with avatar to communities like JomSocial.
I don't use the playlists so I would like to see small icons in the tracklist, if lyrics, video or other files (mp3/tab) are available for the song.
Please change the location of downloadable albums to the media folder instead of images for better protection. A link to a mirror would be most welcome too.
Songs
Please add icon buttons to the song lists when they've got video, lyrics, music, tab, pdf etc. This would make it much easier to navigate and find what you want.
Instead of the chords field it would be so much better to attach sheet music (pdf) or a tab file (.gp5) which you can download.
Something like Discogs to get Lyrics from internet would be awesome!
Fans
Love or Favorite button for Community support so users can become fan of an artist. Adding an additional tab to the Artist page for fans. MC needs more interaction with users.
Events
You could add a tab to the artist page to list events from a www.bandsintown.com module, simple but effective. Also see: http://www.bandsintown.com/plugins/js
Integration with JomSocial events would be fantastic too. LastFM has got a perfect Event system, but I understand this is difficult to program.
Radio / Playlists
Option to use playlists as radio. A single playlist with random listed songs would work. LastFM perfected the playlist with many features.
Instruments
My site offers more information of various music instruments. It would be nice to link instruments to Musicians or Members on the artist page. Maybe this is something for the future, but I would love such a feature, I'm also willing to pay for it as it's a big part of my website: http://www.paganroots.net/folk-instruments/

0I would love to see the majority of these suggestions as well. Especially better genre support with a genre tag page like last.fm has! Would be killer to be able to create genre pages that one can add a nice genre description and image and list all artist that belong to that genre, like the example Ravenscar gave.
The only thing I would suggest differently, is the Change "Years Active" to "Starting Year" idea. I would rather not see it changed, but rather have her suggestion added as a second field. That way both years active and starting years can be optional, or set to only show when info it provided. I might not have the earliest albums of an artist and so wouldn't want MC to guess the starting year of the artist. Besides I like it showing the full range. Similar to how wwww.allmusic.com does theirs. ie http://allmusic.com/artist/queen-p5205 for Queen's jump page (very nice graphical display).
The thing that frustrates my users the most is the lack of MC search integration into joomla. Joomla comes with such a nice search and very prominently displayed on my page, yet they have to use a separate search area to search MC. Would be so much more powerful to have MC integrated better into joomla being that it runs on it and is required to use. Having the search by default be able to bring up results for MC artists, albums, and songs is a MUCH needed update! I get asked by my users way to often why the search is "broken" and have to reply to them that it is not but that is how it currently is by design :huh:
Still working on updating my dev environment to mc 1.6, but loving what I see so far! Please keep up the good work! :cheer: -

0I'm already faking some of these features, but it would be nice to see them as part of MC.
I just think MC can automatically calculate the years active based on the starting year.
The search engine integration could indeed be much better, now it only shows albums, and it does not work in 1.6? I would love to have a search engine like LastFM, with small thumbs of albums, really missing this in MC. I also miss the integration to search on artists. Though the build in search engine of MC is very powerful.
The new MC is indeed awesome, very busy tweaking and designing the music pages. The new artist profiles are super cool

btw I understand the Years Active now, I just have to edit it correctly like "from 1986 to present" or "1990 disbanded in 1998" or "1978 changed name to Queen in 1983", it actually sounds very logical.
The perfect solution would be to change "Years active" to "Active since"
Location instead of City would also be better. Usually not all members live in the same town :P
I'm updating all the artists profiles now, a lot of work but worth every minute :P
oh Germi, another suggestion. Is it possible to edit the Featured Artist module to hide some fields like website? I would like to edit parameters in the module instead of hacking with css...
Another nice addition to the Featured Artists would be a simple link to the Albums and Songs, (with amount) like in the default alphabetical listings. -

That's really sad, I suspected something like that, other search plugins are also without images. I hope the Joomla team changes this soon. This means we have to hack/edit the core search plugin of Joomla to get some nice design... -

0Many good bands in that genre like Mgła, Watain and Ondskapt. Have you got a link? My site is focused on pagan music, but also contains a lot of black metal.
@Germi: please focus on the bugs to make MC work smoothly in 1.6, I also posted a list of bugs in 2.2, good luck!
Found another bug, when you visit an Artist profile from the search results it has lost it's connection to the main menu ID. -
