which folder structure are you following? I mean, for instance, where are you placing the files for album layout?

Let say site name is mysite.com

The featured artists module is in mysite.com/modules/ .

However, since I do not want my customization to be removed every time there is an update of the component/module I would like to make a customization using the standard way in joomla : create in the folder /html/ of my template another folder 'mod_muscol_featured_artists' and this last will contain DIRECTLY the following files:

- cdr.png
- default.php
- detailed.php
- featured_artists.css
- music.png
- profile.php

To summarize, i would like to have my featured_artists module's cutomization files in :

mysite.com/templates/my_template/html/mod_muscol_featured_artists and this last will contains (no 'tmpl' folder here) :
- cdr.png
- default.php
- detailed.php
- featured_artists.css
- music.png
- profile.php

I see what you mean, but this works actually for the component in our case, not the module (I though you were talking about the component!)

so, I suggest that you simply make a backup copy of the "old" files, and you just place your customizations in the /tmpl of the original module folder.. is that ok?

It is fine since your component still a great joomla component (from my point of view it is the best for music collection).
