well, this sounds like a joomla "global" configuration, doesn't it? I mean, where do you set this permission access for other components, for instance?

Yes, it is and I've set my permissions to a new user group I created called Invoice Manager. However, I'd like the 'invoice manager' to see only the component and not all the rest. See this article: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=673&t=749774&hilit=component+permission

I can't find any of the permission levels for the invoice component but is there somewhere on the backend I can change the permission level?

oh, I think I understand now. you mean that in our OPTIONS you don't see a permissions tab. is that correct?
please, look at the screenshot. I'm asuming you need this "Permissions" tab to show up. is that it?

sorry about the screenshot.

please find a config.xml file attached. replace it for the one in /administrator/components/com_invoices/config.xml

it should make the permissions tab appear. let me know how it goes.

Almost there. The permissions tab is now there and my user group is there also, but there are no actions. I have some screenshots for you but the attachment wouldn't let me load it:-(
