Hid Search List after Selection

There are two search buttons within the Invoice screen. One is for Search Contacts and the other is Search Items. Is there a way to hide the search list once a selection is made? My client has a lot of contacts and items which pushes the blocks of data below it off the screen when the search buttons are pressed.

    but.. the search is intended to work in a way that you enter some string to be searched, so the list is not too long.. do you know what I mean?

    yes, teh list could be hidden with just a bit of JS code

    it should go in the items.js file, you need to telll it to "hide" the results after clicking
