Not sure if this will help but have a look at the link below. I had the same trouble with the Invoice Manager component.

Firstly you should turn on PHP errors, so it reports the error on screen instead of just a white/blank screen. If you need help with the PHP.ini settings, contact your hosting support.

If this is on your "localhost" running WAMPServer or something similar and not your live site, go to the configuration options and "display errors" option to "ON".

I had similar issues (white screen) with the Invoice Manager, but it was resolved very easily, the solution is below, but it may or may not help in the case of Expense Manager but it is a start.
