Hi
I'm looking at the documentation on referral words, and I believe I have understood correctly that I can set up a designated page on my site, which a range of referral word links for a number of affiliates would point to? You have given the example: www.yourdomain.com/index.php/store/some_word.
Presumably the "some_word" would change according to the affiliate, but all arrivals using this link (or path) to the site would arrive on the same page? I'm not quite sure how this would be set up as a menu item.
The reason I'm asking is because it could get around the problem I may have, creating affiliates and using Membership Pro with a coupon system. I wondering if I could simply give an affiliate the referral word, and this could be given to potential customers? This would associate them with the affiliate, and then the page that the link takes them to would have the current coupon codes for Membership Pro upgrades.
One difficulty is that they may or may not be members of the site, and the thing I would want tracked is buying an upgrade to their membership, so they may choose to do this at a later date.
One way of refining this idea would be to have a textbox set up, on a given page , or maybe on their Community Builder profile, to be filled in with the referral word, and this would complete the url, which would have to an external url link. I'm not sure, but this may be something that is possible using Community Builder, Am I miles off with this idea or does it sound possible?

hello
ok, I understand. no, we don't have a coupon system (which you can use in Memerbship pro) to identify the affiliate.
this would require custom coding, indeed.
it doesn't matter if the person is already a member.. if he accesses from an affiliate link, from that point forward he will be identified by the affiliate system

0let's see..
if each affiliate has a "word" assignated to them (actually it's a URL), any visit to the website using that URL will be assigned to them.
I mean, if a use accesses the website using the URL www.yourdomain.com/index.php/store/some_word, and this URL is assigned to affiliate "John Smith", then the sales made through this link will be assigned to John Smith...
is that what you ask? -

Thanks for the speedy response.
I understand the principle okay, as you have outlined above.
What I'm wondering first of all is, lets say John Smith and Phil Brown are both affiliates, so they have different dedicated links, one has www.yourdomain.com/index.php/store/smith and the other has www.yourdomain.com/index.php/store/brown, do these links lead to the same page on the "yourdomain" website? -

0No, they don't. These pages are "supposed to already exist" in your system.
You cannot just use "any word" to point to a non-existing page.
in these example, you would have created those 2 pages to serve as landing pages for these 2 users.
if you CANNOT do this (I mean, you don't have to have to create a valid endpoint for each user), then instead of the "referral word" you can use the "classic" affiliate system, which is to simply append the affiliate id to each URL:
www.yourdomain .com/index.php/store?atid=12 (assuming john smith is affiliate with ID = 12 )
www.yourdomain .com/index.php/store?atid=23 (assuming Phil Brown is affiliate with ID = 23 )
in this case, both links will lead to the same page ( www.yourdomain.com/index.php/store ), but each link will identify the unique affiliate. -

0Hi
Yes, that makes sense and is what I thought at first.
What I'm trying to do is to see a way of tying affiliate referrals to user upgrades through Membership Pro. These referrals however are very unlikely, in the main, to be via links, and initially I thought I would just give each affiliate a particular coupon code which would be their dedicated code and no-one else's. I think I already asked about this in this forum, and you replied that it would require customisation to tie this type of setup to Affiliate Tracker, not something I rally want to get into at this early stage.
I'm just wondering if I could use this referral word system instead. I would be quite happy to set up a dedicated landing page for each affiliate. However, given that this would most likely be an upgrade situation for possibly an existing member on the site, it would need to be set up somehow so that the referral was through an external url link on my site. I'm not sure how I would do this or even if it would be feasible.
Thanks for you help on this. -
