[AFFILIATE TRACKER] Error 0 - Call to a member function setFieldAttribute() on boolean Bug

Affiliate tracker version -> 2.1.2
All plugins up-to-date

Using Joomla! 3.6.5 ON A MULTI-LANGUAGE WEBSITE, when submitting a Form to request an affiliate link, it is throwing this error:
Error: 0
Call to a member function setFieldAttribute() on boolean

I googled the error and found this:

I modified components/com_users/models/registration.php as indicated here:
https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/commit/f2cbca7eae087319bddc92a210da9059b1b24ca0


The error went away but when submitting the form, silent registration does not work and brings back the following error:
Error
Registration failed: Please enter a username.

    how can you have version 2.1.2? your subscription expired a long time ago, when the version was version 1. I don't understand...

    oh, nevermind, I see you had another subscription, but it's expired too..
    I haven't seen this setFieldAttribute() error before. this does not seem to be related to Affiliate Tracker.
    Maybe it's another extension that is causing this.
    If you have an active subscription we can log in and take a look into this..
