Germi, I just upgraded my site to joomla 1.7 and updated MC and the plugin to the latest versions. The player plays fine in windows. Yet if I view the site on the iphone, no player shows up. I can click on the play buttons next to the song, but nothing happens.

On your demo site I can bring up a test album and can see a black bar with a play button on it. Clickon on play opens up a quicktime media player and plays the song on the iphone.

a bit strange... if I visit your site with Safari (desktop) working in iPad user-agent mode, everything is good.

if I visit it with my iPad, the player does not show up.. but it's there! there's a blank space, and you can actually click on it. does this happen to you, too?

and, when I click any of the little green buttons to play a song.. it plays! but still the player won't show!

I haven't tried safari yet on the pc and I do not have a mac to test it there. On my iphone touch, it shows a space where the player should be, but does not play. Pressing the little play button next to the song does nothing. Any suggestions?

What are your thoughts on this Germi? Sorry, I don't mean to be impatient. I am just anxious to start making a bunch of changes to the layout of MC. I don't want to change anything yet until I can first fix this issue while the site is using the default unmodified MC code.

as you know I'm currently not working full time (it's August) that's why I take also a bit more time to answer...
you mentioned this problem did not happen to you on version for joomla 1.5 right? could it be the template? do you have the same problem with other templates?

I never tried it on 1.5 as I was using the older version of mc that did not have the 5.x longtail player with it so it would of not of worked on non flash supported devices. I have the same problem with other templates, though they are all yootheme based. It is strange that it would work for you in safari in html5 mode, but yet it doesn't work fully on an apple device.

I have left all the settings for the plugin at their default settings. Is there anything that needs to be changed in there?

I did some more testing. The longtail video player works correctly if I just use the sample code included with their player from their website and embed it onto my front page. Joomla music solutions player does not work for me. I am guessing you are using some unique or custom code for the html5 fall back instead of the default html5 settings longtail video provides?

I also noticed one thing of interest on your demo site here. If one is viewing the page with flash disabled on a non mobile device, then the player does not fall back to html5 correctly if the browser supports it. Viewing this page here on your site with firefox 6.0 and flash disabled, the right jw playlist module looks all jumbled up and unusable and has the share icons on it. I went over to the http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/ page, with the same settings, and the video played just fine. It seems that it detects that i don't have flash enabled and am using an html5 compatible browser so it switched the play back mode to html5 automatically. Very high accessibility!


What can I do to get the music to play correctly on my site with joomla music solutions on an ipad/ipod touch/iphone? Also what can I do so that users that do not have flash installed but are not on a mobile device can play back music, like how the player works out of the box at longtailvideo.com ?

yes, the HTML5 player (on music collection) IS NOT jwplayer. it is a "custom" basic HTML5 player. that is because on the first version we used (5.4) the "automatic switch" did not work (jwplayer html5 was still a bit beta...)

however it's true that now, that we use 5.7, it works.

I'll try to make a new version of our plugin to use jwplayer's html5 mode.
HOWEVER, another reason we used a custom HTML5 player is because Jplwayer's had no playlists functions whatsoever in it (actually you could read in their site "these functions are not available on the HTML5 player, we'll add them one by one in the future").

I believe they have added some, but not all, so I'm not sure how good will be now the HTML5.

so, I have to make some tests and try things. it will take a bit of time because it's not easy work...

but still I'm surprised that the HTML5 does not show on your site with iPad.... you are using the same version that we use..! has you tried accesssing joomlamusicsolutions.com with your iPad? do you see the player on the ALBUm pages?

Yes I can see the player on joomlamusicsolutions demo site, but I can not see it on my site using ipad. Any ideas on what I can do to get it fixed in the mean time? Maybe a conflict with javascript or how the player is being called?

I don't think it's JavaScript, because the player is there, and working.. but not showing.

I did an install through the extension manager in joomla and it seemed to install just fine. I did not delete the old one. Do I need to do delete the old one, or is there any special setup instructions?

The player plays in firefox, I tried it from my ipod touch and it just shows a black box where the player would go. Still does not play. The only thing that I notice that looks or acts differently, is that the black box is a little longer.

EDIT: Also just checked it in Chrome. The play buttons work next to the song, but the player does not play and does not show correctly. It shows up as a black box with the bottom half being a black gradient. In the middle it has the words "Download File" even though i have file downloads disabled. I went to http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/ in Chrome with flash disabled, and the jw player there played just fine. Player showed up, audio and video worked just fine.

I fixed the issue with Chrome by disabling and uninstalling the yootheme widgekit extension. It was having issues with both MC and my gallery, so it had to go.

Unfortunately I am still having issues with viewing the player or getting anything to play on apple devices. Just shows a big black box on my ipod touch.

this is so strange. sorry, I haven't figured it out yet.

I'm having the same issue actually but testing on my iPhone instead of an iPad. I see the big black box where the player would go. This is in Album View.

Clicking on the PLAY buttons next to each individual song does nothing. However, if I click on the actual SONG TITLE, it then will open that Song's detail page and it has a smaller black bar at the top with a little white "Play" button inside it. Clicking on THAT Play button will bring up the song file and start playing it.

This just seems a little complicated to explain to my users! They're going to think they can just press the green Play button next to each song title on the Album View and it should play - but it doesn't...! Also, that big black box at the top is going to confuse people I'm afraid...!

Just checked on my iphone as well. Its not working using joomla 1.7. The only thing i can see is download file( if you click on this, it will play the song)

@greengeek after spending some time on your site... I just decided to go back to previous version of the plugin (2.2.1), and... the error disappeared, now the player shows just fine on iPad, it plays good too....! :S I don't know why it didn't work before...

Just to add what I figured out... Any song that you display in "song view" WILL show the player - UNLESS it has a weird character in its name! For example, I had 3 songs with ' in the title: "They're" for example - and these songs wouldn't show the player on my iPhone!! All the rest did.

Now at the album level - none will show the player but just the big black box...!

the big black box is what was showing on @greengeek's site too.. but I just reinstalled the module and it works good now... :S !! pretty weird...

Thanks Germi! I just tested it out on my ipod touch and it was working great! Looks like it is switching over to quicktime for the playback. I noticed it does not utilize the html5 on PCs that don't have flash support. I have not been able to test it out yet on an android set that doesn't use flash to see if it is working.

A few questions though.

#1. I could not listen to the player with flash disabled on my PC using firefox, chrome, or safari. It appears that the current player will not fall back to the html5 player when flash is not available. The jw player at longtailvideo.com will do this automatically and works just fine on PCs that have no flash or flash disabled.

#2. This is related to observation #1. Since the player will not work on a PC unless flash is installed there should be some type of notification. Most websites will show a no flash text when the flash can not be displayed. Something like, "This player requires flash. Please download flash at..." With this plugin, it just leaves the area blank which will confuse some end users. Having a no flash message is a common web practice. What would I need to edit to add that?

I do not know much about apple devices and quicktime. But is the following possible:

#3 I noticed on apple devices it is not using the html5 player, but switching over to the default quicktime player. This is fine, but is there a way for the quicktime player to show the album cover artwork and title of what is currently playing. Since it switches to a full screen player mode, and one can no longer view the website until they close the player, it is hard to tell what one is currently listening to.

1) that is correct. the current player does not have the "automatic" switch if no Flash available... (that what the new version is supposed to do, but since we tried on your site and didn't work, it still needs some work...)

2) well... since there's no JavaScript checking, what you could do is to change the message "Loading player..." for something else. does this message appear where the player should go when flash disabled?

3) quicktime player IS apple's HTML5 player. and NO, there's no way to show the album cover... :S but this is not my fault I checked a thousand times apple's forums and official developer documentation and, strangely, they don't offer an option to set a cover when the player is playing full screen!! pretty weird... but they don't allow it! let's hope if in iOS 5 they'll change it..!

Morning.. site Im currently working on > www.wherethebandsare.com Excuse the dust.. just getting started.. Player does not work for phone.. If I asked super nicely maybe you could check and see if Im doing anything wrong? Or if im even running the right version?

Also Music players not playing full track... for instance just uploaded on artists.. all tracks are a minimum of 4 minutes long.. Player plays 2 or 3 minutes and skips to next track.. I have verified the entire file is in fact on the server correctly.

what version of Music Collection are you using? and what version of the JWplayer plugin? (you should have the LATEST versions, which is MC 2.2 and JWplayer plugin v 2.2.1)

Do you have an answer for what player I should use since the "official" one is not working for me? I've had to resort to the version you posted here because the other one just gives message "player goes in this paragraph" and no player shows up... I need to get the right player - but make it work!! I don't get why it's working for everyone else it seems but not for me - and I did just try re-installing it. :side:

Cleared cache in joomla... this fixed the player problem right away.. Thank You. Player still doesnt work on phone but im going to wait till tomorrow to check.. for some reason changes take longer to get to my phone "i phone" ty again and ill play some more tomorrow.

Deleted all history , cookies, and cache on multiple phones.. my player did not work. Went to your demo site.. music played fine.. wanted to delete jwplayer and reinstall . went to muscol player folder on server.. deleted jwplayer file... went to reinstall and it says its already there. I now have no players on my site at all. It there another place I need to delete?
Any help appreciated.. You guys have been great.

you DON'T hve to delete the files manually! never!
all uninstallations must be done through the joomla installer!

I will uninstall the entire component through joomla.. and reinstall from start.. does this sound like a good direction?

no. the component has nothing to do with it. you are having problems with the jwplayer only... please reinstall ONLY the player.

the problem is that you erased the folder manually, now the uninstaller can't find it.. :S you need to restore the folder manually. unzip the player package and upload it to the folder again please...

All is well again in the world of ken manually installed as requested.. Players back on site and I am currently streaming from my phone..I cannot express enough to the other people here how helpful you always have been any time I have asked for help. Thank You again sir....

Just come across this issue with the latest plugin version of JW player. Everything seems fine on normal desktop machines, testing with handheld devices just shows a black box.

Not to my knowledge. I definitely don't have widgetkit installed. I have a RT template though so have tried disabled all of their plugins one by one such as RokBox, RokBooster, RokCandy etc and still no luck. I FireBugged my site to see what other scripts were loading and disabled them too but no luck
